Who we are:
The Ren Shih Educational Society was founded on January 1, 2009. In Chinese Ren Shih means teachers of the people and also refers to a
person of exemplary conduct, or a role model—the kind of people we are looking
to recruit. Committee members chose this name because it ties in closely with
what we want the organization to be: an immense educational resource for
students and teachers, built with integrity, morality and selflessness. It is a
non-profit organization where the aim is to bring education to the people
especially in isolated areas where there are not a lot of educational resources
available.
Our goal:
We at the Ren Shih Educational Society want to
develop educational resources that are easily accessible and free of charge. Groups
and individuals within the organization who volunteer their time will help to
create these materials. Over time, we hope to compile an endless database of
invaluable resources.
In addition we also hope to connect people to the much
larger global community by improving their English abilities. In turn, this
will expand their vision and understanding of the world, making them more
cultured individuals. By having our students develop a greater understanding
and acceptance of cultural diversity we intend to break down cultural barriers,
ignorance and discrimination one person at a time.
How we intend to do this:
Volunteer teachers, who are recruited and trained by us, will
use our materials to put on FREE classes in areas where such things are not
available; perhaps because of geographic location or financial situation. There
will be study groups and book clubs to help improve reading, writing and
comprehension skills (English and Chinese). We will organize speech and writing
contests as incentives for people to use and develop the skills they already
have. As well, we will coordinate different outdoor activities, field trips and
get-togethers so that participants can broaden their awareness of the world in
a no-pressure, non-classroom environment.
What we need:
We are looking for motivated kind individuals to
join us our wonderful group. You don’t have to be a teacher to teach, nor do
you have to speak English to contribute, you only need to be generous and give
us a little of your time. We need organizers, people to take pictures and
videotape events, teachers and helpers that can just lend a hand when needed.
Several people are already onboard this amazing project and
have put the wheels in motion. Just ask yourself, “Do I want to make my
community, my county and my country a better place?” If you answered “Yes!”
then now is the time to take action. Join us at the Ren Shih Educational
Society and let’s make our world a kinder, more understanding place to live in
and raise our children.
If not me, then WHO?
If not now, then WHEN?
